Houston: Out & About

Went out and explored Houston for the first time since I've moved here. Finally got to see Discovery Green, and the Skyline from Buffalo Bayou Park. It was awesome, had such a great time. I was at night so it looked amazing. I think I'll be making this a regular thing. Everytime i go out exploring I'll be posting my thought and pictures.

I'm Back

It's been a while since my last post. I haven't read much lately so i haven't had much to post. The last book I was reading was A Sweet Far Thing by Libba Bray. I couldn't finish it. I want to finish it, i want to see what happens in the end but, it's just not a very good book so i'm struggling to finish it. Since i can't finish it, it is keeping me from picking up a new book because once I do i will never pick up  A Sweet Far Thing again. So, i am falling behind in my reading. Ugh! I need to finish reading this book.

9 Down 91 To Go

Rebel Angels (Gemma Doyle #2)

by
Ah, Christmas! Gemma Doyle is looking forward to a holiday from Spence Academy, spending time with her friends in the city, attending ritzy balls, and on a somber note, tending to her ailing father. As she prepares to ring in the New Year, 1896, a handsome young man, Lord Denby, has set his sights on Gemma, or so it seems. Yet amidst the distractions of London, Gemma’s visions intensify–visions of three girls dressed in white, to whom something horrific has happened, something only the realms can explain...

The lure is strong, and before long, Gemma, Felicity, and Ann are turning flowers into butterflies in the enchanted world of the realms that Gemma alone can bring them to. To the girls’ great joy, their beloved Pippa is there as well, eager to complete their circle of friendship.

But all is not well in the realms–or out. The mysterious Kartik has reappeared, telling Gemma she must find the Temple and bind the magic, else great disaster will befall her. Gemma’s willing to do his intrusive bidding, despite the dangers it brings, for it means she will meet up with her mother’s greatest friend–and now her foe, Circe. Until Circe is destroyed, Gemma cannot live out her destiny. But finding Circe proves a most perilous task.(less)

My thoughts:
I finished reading book 9 of my 100 book challenge Rebel Angels by Libba Bray. This one was better than the first one. At the beginning it did keep me in suspense not knowing who was the one on her side and who wasn't. Towards the end it was alright. Although, the main character can annoy me at times, but again it still made me want to read the last book. Well see how that one turns out.

8 Down 92 To Go

A Victorian boarding school story, a Gothic mansion mystery, a gossipy romp about a clique of girlfriends, and a dark other-worldly fantasy--jumble them all together and you have this complicated and unusual first novel.
Sixteen-year-old Gemma has had an unconventional upbringing in India, until the day she foresees her mother's death in a black, swirling vision that turns out to be true. Sent back to England, she is enrolled at Spence, a girls' academy with a mysterious burned-out East Wing. There Gemma is snubbed by powerful Felicity, beautiful Pippa, and even her own dumpy roommate Ann, until she blackmails herself and Ann into the treacherous clique. Gemma is distressed to find that she has been followed from India by Kartik, a beautiful young man who warns her to fight off the visions. Nevertheless, they continue, and one night she is led by a child-spirit to find a diary that reveals the secrets of a mystical Order. The clique soon finds a way to accompany Gemma to the other-world realms of her visions "for a bit of fun" and to taste the power they will never have as Victorian wives, but they discover that the delights of the realms are overwhelmed by a menace they cannot control. Gemma is left with the knowledge that her role as the link between worlds leaves her with a mission to seek out the "others" and rebuild the Order. A Great and Terrible Beauty is an impressive first book in what should prove to be a fascinating trilogy.
My Thoughts:
Just finish reading this book, it was a fun read. some parts were really predictable and a bit cliche at times but all in all it did keep me reading, there were some really exiting parts and it did make me want to see what happen next, so on to the next book in the series Rebel Angels
